Selected work

Different briefs. Different markets. Same standard.

Every search has its own problem to solve. Sometimes it’s finding one person in a very small market. Sometimes it’s knowing what good actually looks like. Sometimes one brief turns into an ongoing hiring partnership.

Here’s some of the work CherryPeople has been trusted with.

Mid-Market Account Executive · Australia

The best candidate wasn’t looking.

Joe had worked with Steve Cornwell, Head of Sales, ANZ at Phocas, since 2018 — building teams for him and, at one point, placing Steve himself into a sales leadership role.

When Steve needed to add to Phocas’ Mid-Market team in Sydney, the brief was specific: ANZ territory, pure new-logo acquisition, selling into the Office of the CFO, with relevant ERP or FP&A experience.

It was an urgent hire in a candidate-short market, with enough trust in the relationship to run the search properly rather than chase volume.

The brief

A good search starts with a good brief.

Steve knew exactly what he was looking for — and just as importantly, knew how to articulate the opportunity, the team and why someone should join Phocas.

That gave CherryPeople a clear market to map and a compelling story to take to candidates.

The search

Going to the market, not waiting for it.

Matt wasn’t advertising himself as open to work. He wasn’t applying for jobs. He wasn’t even thinking about making a move.

CherryPeople proactively headhunted him from the relevant market.

His background matched the technical brief, but it was the first proper conversation that made the fit obvious. Technically, he ticked the boxes. Culturally, it clicked too.

Matt was introduced as the second or third candidate in a shortlist of five and quickly became the front-runner.

From there, the process was refreshingly straightforward. Phocas and Matt gave each other the time required, communication stayed transparent and the process kept moving.

The result

Making the placement got the search over the line. What happened afterwards showed why the match mattered.

Within his first year, Matt had already made a strong impression — performing during ramp, closing business and contributing beyond his individual number.

He went on to earn Rookie of the Year, 100 Club and President’s Club recognition at Phocas.

Founding VP Sales · Japan

Seven conversations. Two candidates. One hire.

Anteriad came to CherryPeople through an introduction from Joe’s network. It was a new relationship, and the first brief was a significant one: a Founding VP Sales to launch Anteriad’s new region in Japan.

This wasn’t a hire into an established Japanese sales organisation. CherryPeople was being asked to identify the founding commercial leader who would establish and lead Anteriad’s presence in a new market.

Before the search began, CherryPeople researched the market and compensation landscape to make sure the package was positioned where it needed to be.

The budget was competitive. The harder part was the brief itself: an executive-level sales leader who was genuinely bilingual in Japanese and English, with relevant MarTech or AdTech experience.

The market

A narrow brief creates a narrow market.

At this level, each requirement materially reduced the available talent pool. Combined, they left a very small number of people worth approaching.

The founding mandate narrowed it further. Anteriad needed a leader who could establish a region from the ground up, not step into an existing Japanese sales organisation.

CherryPeople didn’t try to manufacture a ten-person shortlist. The objective was to identify the small number of people who genuinely matched the brief and engage them properly.

The first candidate was strong. Then Joe met Lavin.

Lavin’s background immediately stood out in the market. His experience with StackAdapt and Teads brought direct relevance to Anteriad, and his profile reflected many of the characteristics the search had been built around.

But the profile only got him into the conversation.

Meeting him was what changed the search.

Joe came away from their first in-person meeting convinced he’d found someone different: an intelligent, humble and highly credible sales leader with the presence expected at this level.

There was one complication.

Lavin wasn’t looking.

He was passive — lukewarm at best — and needed to be convinced that the opportunity was worth properly exploring.

Client feedback

You couldn’t have been more on the money in terms of targeting… This feels like we have found the needle in the haystack.

Jake PhibbsExecutive Vice President, Sales, APACAnteriad

The process

The assessment went both ways.

Anteriad quickly saw what CherryPeople had seen. But Lavin wasn’t going to make an executive move without doing his own diligence.

Additional conversations were arranged so he could meet stakeholders across the APAC team, understand the business properly and assess the opportunity from his side.

CherryPeople and Anteriad welcomed that approach. At this level, the candidate should be assessing the company just as carefully as the company is assessing the candidate.

The result

Candidate #2 submitted.

Ongoing GTM partnership · International

One introduction. Eight searches and counting.

Open Point came to CherryPeople through a trusted introduction in March 2026.

It was a new relationship, but not a cold one. CherryPeople’s work had already been validated through shared networks, and Open Point was preparing for significant hiring across Australia and North America.

Rather than engage multiple agencies, Open Point and CherryPeople agreed an exclusive partnership: one external recruitment voice representing the business in the global talent market.

The partnership

Built around the hiring plan, not one vacancy.

The relationship was designed around a broader hiring programme from the beginning.

Since March 2026, Open Point has formally engaged CherryPeople on eight searches spanning Account Management, Onboarding and Customer Success across Australia, Canada and the United States.

The first search

Two candidates submitted. They wanted both.

The partnership started with an Account Manager search for ANZ.

CherryPeople submitted two candidates.

Both matched the brief strongly enough that Open Point wanted to hire both. Ultimately there was only one position available, but Open Point asked CherryPeople to keep the second candidate close for when the team was ready to hire again.

Beyond the search

More than candidate delivery.

As the relationship expanded, the work moved beyond individual searches.

CherryPeople supports Open Point with talent and compensation insight, competitive landscape analysis and interview-process advice alongside ongoing search delivery.

In North America, that also means helping position Open Point in a market where candidates have plenty of competing SaaS employers to choose from — and where the company story sometimes needs to be introduced before the role can be sold.

The relationship

Close enough to understand what’s changing.

Joe works directly with Open Point’s Global Chief Customer Experience Officer, alongside Customer Success leadership across ANZ and North America and the People & Talent team.

That proximity means briefs don’t operate in isolation. CherryPeople can understand what the wider team is building, how one hire affects the next and how the talent market is responding across regions.
